French Doors, Garden, Patio... Oh My!
This lovely garden was created as an extension of the house. The family wanted a landscape that was an outdoor living space. This very personal garden was created with imagination, charm, and artistry as an intimate part of the house that anchors it. The covered porch was added for comfort and to extend the outdoor living space in inclement rainy weather placed next to the house for easy access to the kitchen.
The covered patio with grill, plasma T.V., and patio heater were all added to satisfy their dream. Even a ceiling fan was added to keep the area cool on hot summer days. The new formal outdoor room now offers comfort for entertaining, conversations, meals, and just enjoying the view of the garden.
The new French doors were added to have access to the new bluestone terrace and garden from the family room. The curved bluestone capped sitting wall complements the curved bluestone floor of the covered patio. The garden that hugs the wall is rich with color; formal, but comfortable. The gardens are accented by low voltage lighting to add another dimension of night scaping.
A graceful curved Bluestone walk ties the outdoor living spaces and now both the house and gardens are connected. The garden is still young; just planted in 2009. We strived to make the garden as pleasing to the eye in winter as it is during the height of bloom in summer. All the plants were selected to provide a formal landscape with ease of care. The evergreen bones of the garden include several types of boxwood (Buxus ‘Green Velvet’, ‘Tide Hill’, and ‘Green Mountain’), Mt. Laurel ‘Minuet’, and Rhododendron ‘Percy Wiseman’, Roses, and a variety of charming and colorful perennials like dianthus, coral bells, daylilies, and hostas, as well as, spring flowering daffodil bulbs.
